Summer Field Trip

The annual MESTA Field Trip has been postponed until 2025. Next year we will be visiting the scenic Porcupine Mountains  Wilderness State Park. During the trip, we will explore the geology of the Midcontinent Rift System – a 1.1-billion-year-old failed rift – with stops around the Porcupine Mountains and into the southern Keweenaw Peninsula. During the trip, we will visit the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum at Michigan Tech. Star gazing and perhaps even the chance of finding some yooperlites will be possible.

The field trip dates are convenient for members planning on staying on in the Upper Peninsula to visit the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club’s annual show and field trips.

There are several campgrounds around the park – Union Bay Campground is right on the shore of Lake Superior. There are also hotels in Silver City and slightly farther out at Ontonagon.

POSTPONED UNTIL SUMMER 2025
