A small group of educators met in 1967 and decided to form the Michigan Earth Science Teachers Association (MESTA). Since that year, MESTA has grown and spread to include members from all parts of Michigan.

The purpose of MESTA shall be the advancement, stimulation, extension, improvement, and coordination of Earth Science education at all educational levels through the voluntary and donated efforts of MESTA members.

MESTA leadership is comprised of a seven-person Executive Committee (with five elected positions). The full Governing Board is composed of the Executive Committee plus Board members appointed by virtue of their volunteer role within MESTA, as well as appointed Board-Members-At-Large.

The composition of the full Governing Board may be found on this website by clicking on MESTA Officers under About MESTA on the Table of Contents located on the left.

The latest version of the MESTA Operations Manual is available for you to download below. This document includes the Constitution and Bylaws for our organization.

Anyone interested in the advancement of Earth Science education is welcome to join our organization!
